Page Update:
OVERHAUL of “Korea’s Evolving Travel Document System”.
We have laboriously updated the entire “Korea’s Evolving Travel Document System” page on Paperslip to reflect the new knowledge (thanks to a non-KSS US Immigration expert) that ALL Korean Adoptees traveled from S. Korea to their Western Countries of Adoption on one way exit TRAVEL CERTIFICATES. Even if an original Korean Travel Document says “PASSPORT” on the cover, this is STILL in actuality a TRAVEL CERTIFICATE.
To acknowledge this we have alternately used the terms “Passport” or “passport” in quotes ("") or the term Travel Certificate when referencing the Travel Certificate documents on which ALL Korean Adoptees traveled at the time of their adoption.
We did not totally want to remove the term “Passport” from Paperslip as many Korean Adoptees’ original travel documents DO SAY “PASSPORT” on the cover.
We use the terms Passport or passport (without quotes ““) to denote the TRUE PASSPORTS assigned to NON-ADOPTEE KOREAN NATIONALS whose TRUE PASSPORTS permitted them to both leave and return to Korea.
Travel Certificates were just one way exit documents which did NOT permit the holder to return.
