Post 001:

Korean Birth Mother Seeking 3 Siblings: Daughter (Oldest) + 2 Younger Brothers.

Date: April 10th, 2024

IF THIS IS YOU PLEASE CONTACT:
paperslipadoptee@gmail.com

*Please see below for photos and names of the children.

Angela, the mixed-race biological / non-adopted daughter of a Korean birth mother living in the US, is assisting her Korean mother in searching for the Korean mother’s 3 children (who are full blooded Koreans and NOT mixed-race / Hapa) which were relinquished in Korea for adoption, most likely in the 1970s. Due to the older age of these Korean children when they were adopted (presumably to the US), these Adoptees should be able to self-identify and to remember their real Korean names (see below).

Please note that as of April 10th, 2024, we have advised the Korean birth mother to take 23 and Me, Ancestry, FTDNA, and MyHeritage. These tests will hopefully be administered / given by Angela to the Korean birth mother soon.

Below is more info:

Angela, the Hapa (non-adopted) daughter of a Korean mom / war bride is helping her Korean mom to search for Angela’s full-blooded (non-Hapa) siblings.

The Korean birth mom - living in the US - is seeking her 3 children who were relinquished for adoption:

1 sister (oldest child) and 2 brothers (younger than the sister).

Please note that ages / birth years are approximate due to the memory of the Korean birth mother and the difference between the Korean (lunar) and Western (solar) calendar systems.

These children would certainly have been old enough to remember details of their adoption as the sister was around 13 years old (estimated) when relinquished / adopted, presumably to the US (unconfirmed), after her brothers were adopted together, presumably to the US (unconfirmed). All 3 siblings are thought to have been adopted to the same adoptive family in the US (unconfirmed).

The brothers may have been about 7 and 10 years old respectively when relinquished and / or adopted - please note that Koreans are NOT exact about ages, so these ages are estimates. The important thing to note is that the brothers would have been old enough to remember being relinquished and adopted. It is presumed that they were adopted together to the same adoptive family and that the sister was later adopted to the same adoptive family as her brothers, though this cannot be confirmed.

The sister was the oldest and was about 13 when adopted, presumably to the US to the SAME adoptive family as her biological brothers, who were presumably adopted together to the US before their sister. The adoptive family had also presumably adopted a Chinese girl (unconfirmed).

The oldest child was the sister who was born in APPROXIMATELY 1965. She could have been born in 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, or 1968. The siblings were each 3 years apart. The brothers were both younger than the sister.

The children were most likely relinquished by 1978 as the Korean birth mother immigrated to the US around June 1978 and her children had been relinquished (presumably by the children’s maternal grandmother) by that time.

The birth mother immigrated to the US in 1978 and still resides in the US. She is in her late 70s as of April 2024.

The birth mother thought that she would have been reunited with her relinquished children in the US, but was devastated when she realized this would not be the case. It is presumed that the maternal grandmother had the primary role in relinquishing the children for adoption.

The city of birth is not yet confirmed.

The names of the children are in the images (see below).

The birth father passed away and the birth mother was living in poverty. It is believed that the maternal grandmother relinquished the children for adoption. It is unknown through which Korean / Western adoption agencies the children were adopted. However, the Korean birth mother feels great sorrow as she believed that she would be reunited with her children once she immigrated to the US, which has never happened.

문일용 (Mun Ilyong) / alternately Mun Il Yong or Moon Il Yong

City of birth???

동의봉동

Paperslip note: The romanization of Korean was NOT standard and so there may be several possible English spellings of these Korean names:

  • 문수경 - (Mun Sugeong) / alternately Mun Soo Kyung or Moon Soo Kyung

  • 문일권 (Mun Ilgwon) / alternately Mun Il Kwon or Moon Il Kwong

  • 문일용 (Mun Ilyong) / alternately Mun Il Yong or Moon Il Yong

  • 동의봉동 (Donguibongdong) (Please note I do not know if this is the birth city or not).

On June 6, 1978, Onam Soon (the birth mother) came to the USA, through an engagement (she immigrated to the US as a bride).

*Please note that the Korean birth mother is not totally sure of the BIRTH YEAR. The birth year of the oldest daughter is LIKELY 1965, but as Koreans go by a different calendar system we suggest bracketing this possible birth year of the oldest sister to: 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968:

  • Mun Sukyeong's birthday is either in November or December.

  • Mun Ilkweon's birthday is in the spring, in February.

  • Mun Ilyong's birthday is in the summer.

  • The birth mother is not sure if it's July or August.

Photo of the Korean birth mother and her daughter in Korea. Date unknown, but likely sometime in the mid-late 1960s, or early 1970s.
