We try to provide as much information here as we possibly can for fellow Korean Adoptees for FREE, and we strongly encourage you to try to read as much as you can. However, we understand that the amount of information on this site can sometimes feel overwhelming for Adoptees. Sometimes this results in a “deer in headlights” response where the Adoptee does not know where to begin.
As we have always done, we are still happy to do one FREE one-hour Zoom session with fellow KSS (Korea Social Service) Adoptees who have questions about starting or continuing in their birth family search.
If you are a KSS (Korea Social Service) Adoptee, we ask that before you request a FREE Zoom, that you at least try to read through the following pages. We have put a lot of work into making things as clear as we can - we want this information to help you:

With literally thousands of Korean Adoptees out there with the same questions and concerns, we simply cannot offer to explain one by one to each person the whole system of Adoption and how to do their birth family search AND our personal adoption stories for FREE. It’s a lot of work for us to take this all on. We also do not know nearly as much about the other Korean Adoption Agencies - Holt, Eastern, KWS / now SWS - as we do about KSS, so our information about how to interact with these specific agencies which are not KSS is going to be limited. However, we can offer general advice about birth family search which may be of use to you, and we are happy to help as much as we can to put you on the right track in terms of search.
If you are a NON-KSS (Korea Social Service) Adoptee, and still wish to consult with us, please understand that we are happy to do so, but at this point must charge a small fee, since everything else we are doing for Adoptees is FREE.
If you wish to request a document review, you can send us your documents in ONE PDF file (please do not send us dozens of individual images) after you have contacted us and made payment for a 1 hour session.
We will NEVER charge for the FREE information available on this website, and we hope that you read the information well and that it is useful.
Cost for 1-hour Advisory Session with Non-KSS Adoptees:
We charge $60 in advance for a paid one-hour session with non-KSS Adoptees.
Policy:
First please contact us at paperslipadoptee@gmail.com - you must be able to make payment in advance via PayPal friends and family or via Venmo. Please contact us via email if you have interest. Once you have made payment, we can schedule a 1-hour session with you via email. Apologies, we cannot accept any other forms of payment.
A 1-hour session must be scheduled within 2 weeks of payment - we cannot honor repetitively rescheduled appointments. If you cancel a scheduled Zoom appointment with less than 24 hours’ notice, you will forfeit payment, and will not be able to reschedule until you make a new payment. We will never try to waste your time, and hope that you respect ours.
Please note that if we do not already know that you are a Korean Adoptee, that we will ask that you provide some evidence that you are a Korean Adoptee before we meet via Zoom.
We will not do phone calls in lieu of Zoom. Particularly if we do not know that you are a Korean Adoptee, we insist upon a video Zoom so that we can visually verify your identity as a Korean Adoptee.
Non-KSS Adoptees include anyone adopted through Holt, Eastern (ECWS / ESWS) or Korea Welfare Society (KWS) / formerly Social Welfare Society (SWS).
We make no guarantees about the information which we provide and can only offer supportive advice as fellow Adoptees who have been there and done that with respect to attempting a birth family search. We are definitely not therapists, and our focus is on practical ways to approach birth family search. Of course, birth family search is emotional, and we will always hear you out, but we mainly want to spend our limited time on trying to help to put you on the right path in terms of birth family search.
