We can’t go into everything about Korean Adoption history here, but there are a few basic facts which KSS Adoptees should know about Korean Adoption history generally in order to understand their own adoptions in context. One thing it is helpful to understand is that in the decade of the 1970s, 1976 was the peak year of Korean adoption.
In the decade of the 1980s, 1988 was the peak year of Korean adoption.
Adoption declined in Korea significantly after 1988 due to the international criticism which S. Korea received about being a “baby exporter”.
